PayPal Hack

PayPal is a global e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. Online money transfers serve as electronic alternatives to paying with traditional paper methods, such as checks and money orders. PayPal is an acquirer, performing payment processing for online vendors, auction sites, and other commercial users, for which it charges a fee. It may also charge a fee for receiving money, proportional to the amount received. The fees depend on the currency used, the payment option used, the country of the sender, the country of the recipient, the amount sent and the recipient’s account type. In addition, eBay purchases made by credit card through PayPal may incur extra fees if the buyer and seller use different currencies.

Someone I know hacked a PayPal account and stole 200$ and didn’t use a proxy. What is the punishment if caught (he is under 18). Also if he was over 18 what would be the punishment?

I’ve heard stories of people getting hacked and have money taken from them but is it simply because they’re stupid or Paypal is unreliable?

Can you get one with a checking bank account?

I had a bank account though First Convenience Bank. It was inactive for almost a year with a balance of $10. The account was tied to my PayPal account, which got hacked earlier in the year.
I figured out that my PayPal got hacked because when I tried to log in, everything was in Chinese.
Also, I got an email from PayPal about “suspicious activity” and that I needed to change my password.
I changed my password and logged on to see that none of my accounts were affected because PayPal denied the charges due to suspicion.
Then I get a phone call from my bank about my “Negative account balance” and I’m very confused.

First off, I specifically had them create my account WITHOUT overdraft protection so I would never have to deal with the obscene charges.
Secondly, I noticed that I went negative because of 2 overdraft fees, when no money was removed from my account in the first place.
I told the lady of the phone about my PayPal being hacked, but that no money was removed from any of my accounts, and I told her that I didn’t have Overdraft Protection anyway.
She made it sound like she understood and that she was remove the charges.

Now, I’m being told that my account was closed and sent to a collections agency, who calls me 4-5 times a day.
I finally answered my phone and talked to the person.
I went to the bank, because I was told by the person on the phone that I could fill out paperwork to solve the issue.
However, when I got there, the manager said there’s nothing she can do and she told me to call PayPal…

My credit score has dropped really low because of this, and I honestly don’t know what to do.
I do know that I absolutely refuse to pay a falsely generated debt.

    Please, someone, help me!

I have been using PayPal quite a lot for the past year (having had an account for several years, although I never really used it before). I have read that UK customers should receive their money within 2 hours; I have always found it to take a matter of minutes.

However, a couple of months ago, I wanted to send my girlfriend a small amount of money and though it would be simplest using PayPal to do so. She had to set herself up an account for this and all seemed fine until she withdrew the cash and was told there was a security review and it could be pending for up to 72 hours.

Having googled about this at the time to try and see why it wasn’t instantaneous (like my withdrawals) it seemed that this happens from time to time and may have been down to the fact that she was new, with some suggestions that it could take a while before she was “accepted” and would receive the same treatment as me (i.e. instant(ish) withdrawals)

It has been a couple of months or more since then, during which time I sent (and she withdrew) several small amounts. Might things have improved or is it still likely to take 72 hours again?

I haven`t got one but i was just wondering. You cant just send it to your account because it would be traced back to you and you would get caught. I have an idea but i would like to know the easiest way. My idea is to use the hacked paypal to buy Second Life Lindens.(the account would be linked with fake email). Then use the lindens to buy bitcoins on the deep web. Then, change the bitcoins back into lindens but to an account that is yours with your details in. Then change the lindens into money in a your real paypal account and put the money on your real card. Would this work?

Because i have heard lots of accounts being hacked and sold. It must be hard to safely get money from them because otherwise the hackers wouldn’t sell the accounts they would just get the money in them themselves. There are accounts with £1000 in them being sold for £50. If there is a way to safely get the money then buying them could be very profitable, yes?

Like what if someone stole someones account and spent money on it, But lets say the hacker lives in africa and the person who gets hacked lives in US. Would there be a chance this person would get caught? How would they catch em if he lives in another country?
