Statistically, many more people are killed by paracetemol, not to mention the devastation to lives, families and careers caused by alcohol.

Hello everyone, I am asking for participants to take part in a short survey which will count towards my final degree, supervised by my lecturer (details can be found at the start of the study). The purpose of the study is to discover if there is a relationship between personality and beliefs, particularly belief in the paranormal or supernatural, so varying views are valuable to the research. The survey will be in 2 parts, the first will be a personality test, the second a belief test which will take no longer than 10 minutes of your time and will be highly appreciated. After these 2 sets of questions are completed, there will be some general demographic questions. All results will be kept completely anonymous and will be seen by no-one other than myself and my supervisor, you do not need to give any contact information. There are no right or wrong answers, this is simply exploratory research to see if there are any links in this area. This is not a survey to collect information on your religious beliefs and we are not questioning them. No judgements are made against anyone’s beliefs’, this survey is simply interested in looking at group level differences. You will have one week if you wish to withdraw your data, which you can do so by emailing me (krice1@chi.ac.uk) but only if you have provided an email address yourself otherwise you data will be unidentifiable from the rest of the participants. You also have the right to withdraw from the study at any time during the survey. Feel free to email me at krice1@chi.ac.uk if you have any questions regarding the study and your participation will be much appreciated.

Thank you for participating, and i have to write all of this to make sure participants know what they’re doing otherwise i could get in trouble with ethics and stuff

I found so much evidence at the Divine Name King James Bible website (dnkjb.net) that deserves some scrutiny because of the following words…

“We will soon include throughout the NT in our online version of the DNKJB the supporting documentation to show the authority for claiming the NT should read with the Divine Name in the text.”

“In the context of these statements we answer the question “Who are the Divine Name Publishers” by saying simply that we are a group of avid truth seekers who have determined for themselves that it is an undeniable truth that the Divine Name has been purposely withheld from those to whom it is owed. Equal to lying about the Creator and His Will is the hiding or obscuring of His Divine Name. And it is a great shame for Bible translators to conspire with ignorance and evil to accomplish such a heinous thing.”

So these statements show the anonymous publishers of the DNKJB say “the NT should read with the Divine Name”, and they are accusing the Christian Bibles INCLUDING the Authorized King James Version of “lying about the Creator and His Will”, “hiding or obscuring of His Divine Name”, and the translators “conspire with ignorance and evil to accomplish such a heinous thing”.

Okay now, I thought these were exactly the same accusations that the Watchtower and the Jehovah’s Witnesses were making against the Christian Bibles all along for many, many decades. Do the “anonymous publishers” of the DNKJB really sound like non-Jehovah’s Witnesses, or are they really Jehovah’s Witnesses with a hidden agenda? What do you all think about the “Divine Name Publishers”? Rick G…Really? What about their plans for the NT? Can you find one Greek New Testament Interlinear with the Divine Name findings? danman…I agree. I checked the source of this domain and it is from godaddy.com, a secure site for shielding a private domain user. Other KJV sites are not like this one. Andrew said…”I have no idea who these people are, but if it was Jehovah’s Witnesses you would have known it was as they are so proud of Gods name, they would not hide themselves from being in agreement with it.”

Righto….so who are the NWT translators? Andrew…why can’t you say they are anonymous on this thread… Watchtower 1974 12/15 On September 3, 1949, the New World Bible Translation Committee presented us with a completed translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures. This manuscript, along with their work on the Hebrew Scriptures that followed, became our legal property. In regard to this, page 258 of the book Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Divine Purpose notes: “The one request of the translation committee was that its members remain anonymous even after their death.” We have kept our agreement and respected their wishes. Andrew…everybody knows the NWT translation commitee who inserted “Jehovah” into the OT & NT was made up of “anonymous brothers”, and look up the JW-Archive link provided by WoB and GT, your brothers have already admitted this DNKJB site is… “The web site is a 4 year labor of one of the Brothers…”. How much more evidence do you need from your own brothers? William…look up Peacelily’s edit to your requested information. All the translators in both of those Bibles are not as anonymous as you might think. Al, who told you we are the KJV only crowd? There is already the NWT translation, so why is there a need for another Bible rewritten from the copyright expired Authorized King James Version? We would like to know what credentials these DNKJB translators have, whoever they are, and why are there always so much secrecy if they are so proud of using the Jehovah name? Did this occur before with the NWT translators who also were very proud of using the Jehovah name in the Bible? Is it common practice in this Organization and their translators to have pride in this Jehovah name and hide away their names and credentials in secrecy?

What exactly is scientology? I’ve heard some really weird stuff….. about an alien galactic ruler named Xenu, and talking to dead aliens, dumping frozen people into volcanoes… the earth being originally named Teegeeack?

    Basically, I found this site:
    http://www.skeptictank.org/gen3/gen01985.htm

Is there any truth to any of this? I don’t want to judge before I know the truth, because I know people do that about my own religion, and I hate it. I would like to know the facts before I make any opinions/personal judgments of scientology.

Please don’t answer if you don’t know what you’re talking about. Thanks!!!

    a) inspite of or b) because of

the 12 traditions? I apologize for the catagorization on this one. I clicked “mental health”, but it came up in here… hun, if I wanted to ask about the steps or the promisess or the world concepts I would have. I asked specifically about the twelve traditions of AA for a reason.

Sorry but I am well versed so don’t bother trying to confuse me.

Mukhtar Mai was once an anonymous Pakistani villager – but that was before she was gang-raped, apparently on the orders of local elders in a neighbouring village.

From then onwards she has been determined to bring them to justice, and her fight made her an international figure.

Some of the men she said attacked her were convicted, but then the appeal court in Lahore overturned their convictions, amid an outcry from human rights groups.

Now Mukhtar Mai, who is in her mid-30s, is writing her own internet diary, or blog, about her life and her concerns, as a woman from a remote village in southern Punjab.

What would you do to these elders if they were in control of your village?

So i’ve been gambling for about 8 months or so. It started off just scratchcards, then slots, then the casino. I would lose sometimes (hundreds) but then keep going back because i was certain i would win my money back. I did a few times. So then that made me think i was right and could always win it back. I loved the buzz of winning and when i lost i wouldnt be too dissapointed because i knew i would find a way to get it back. But then it became more frequent and as soon as i got the urge to go i would go, no matter how little money i had in my account or how far i had to travel. I have been loosing a lot lately and probably spend £200 each time i go. This is basically my weeks money gone. I’m 23 years old and live at home but pay rent. I have mental illness problems…diagnosed bpd. I must have spent or lost should i say about £3000 now. I hit a real low yesterday and after feeling so helpless for a while i sat crying opposite a train track contemplating ending my life. I realise i have a problem but everything in my life is s*** and i can not cope. My family and friends are beyond concerned but i still can not seem to stop. Please someone help?

These questions explain what’s wrong with me(Don’t have to read it so you don’t have to answer) but some may already know me:

    http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ahu80HGGpD40_x.tkQCZv5EhBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20100506084640AAGdyIh

So to sum up, these last 2 months have been very stressful for me. I can’t remember the last time I was this stressed(the last time was during GCSE times but not as much as this..)

It all started with the name problem and it slowly started to build up along with other problems. The name problem came ever since I thought the girl I like would think its weird then I started thinking my friends will probably think that too. So, everything else like exams, family, love just added on and makes me not look forward to a day when I wake up because these problems just hit me in the morning.

My family haven’t been helping because they can tell I’m stressed. In fact, nobody can tell I’m stressed, including my friends. I guess I’m good at keeping it bottled up but deep down, I’m feeling worse. When I have good days, I tend to forget about it for a while but then it comes back again but I’ve never shown it..

I hate being like this. It’s made me moody nearly all the time(at least that’s what my family is saying) and I’m normally not like this. I’ve been given countless, great advice here in Y!A but I still have negative thoughts in my mind, well give it a day at most and the problems come back. I thought, if I knew someone like me or have confidence to speak to someone face to face who’ll understand my problems, maybe I wouldn’t stress out as much because they can motivate me in person(which feels much better than being told online). But I kept thinking two things. One, I don’t have the confidence to tell anyone because its kind of embarrassing and two, what if people take it the wrong way and think its weird?

That’s when I thought of getting counselling before but I used to think no, I don’t need it but now I’m considering it. However, I’m not sure because will it be a waste of time for me, I mean isn’t counselling for people with much severe problems(like mental health problems etc)?

That’s what I’m confused about, Should I seek counselling?

Also, where do I start if I should? Should I go visit my GP first? I don’t want to pay for it but I heard NHS(In the UK by the way) provides the fees if you let them know. I’m thinking of making an appointment with my GP and telling her. I’m not going to tell my parents because they will probably just laugh about my problem and I heard counsellors are very understanding. But I’m still shy about that. What if they find my problem so small and not help. What if its a waste of time?

So: 1. Should I seek counselling? 2. If so, how do I seek counselling in London(This question is mainly for people from UK)? Just visiting my GP and letting them know? 3. Do I have to be specific to my GP about my problem? I don’t want them to know my problem 4.Also, what should I say to my counsellor? I’m stressed because of my name? It would feel kind of embarrassing, what if they don’t understand?

Thanks to everyone who has helped me these past months. After this, it should be the last time I post the same questions. I might be back to let people know how it went(that’s if I go) and do the opposite(help other people out here)

hello i just got a job offer at Qatar group UK job is located in heath row and will like to know if this is a scam or not

VISA PROCESSING FORMALITIES/CONTACT DETAILS OF THE BRITISH IMMIGRATIONS.

. The Hard Copies of your Confidential Invitation Letter and other Supporting Documents has been sent to the British Immigration Service for their review and verification. Kindly note the following Points:

    1. PROCESSING OF U.K WORK PERMIT VISA

Job applicants MUST contact the MARTINS LAW FIRM who are the company’s legal adviser on Immigration Matters to for request the requirements and cost details for processing the U.K Work Permit Visa and other supporting documents that will be needed for entry into London. All Contacts SHOULD be made immediately as late application will be detrimental and QATAR AIRWAYS will not hesitate to revoke these opportunities as there are lots of Job applicants interested in this opportunity.

BELOW ARE THE CONTACT DETAILS OF THE COMPANY’S LEGAL ADVISER ON IMMIGRATION MATTERS.

    Martin’s Chamber 11, Tottington Road Bolton United Kingdom BL2 4BN TEL: +44-7024010129, +44-7024019472 LANDLINE: +44-7024019298 FAX: +44-844 774 4971 Email: martinschamber@live.com

    3. APPLYING DIRECTLY TO THE U.K EMBASSIES WORLD-WIDE

it has come to our notice that most applicants prefer to apply directly to the U.K Embassies in their various locations and when they make applications, their Visas are usually denied especially Job applicants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. When such visa applications are denied, it takes approximately 90 days to re-apply or make a second application and during this time, the Company will not be patient or wait for such an applicant, we usually revoke their offers immediately and recruit some other applicants.

Hence, to ensure that you pass through a hassle free Visa application process to the U.K, We have affiliated with the Local Immigration & Visa office here in London, the British Immigration Service. They will assist you with the Visa application, processing of U.K Work permit and other relevant Insurance and Travel packages that will be required for your legal entry into the United Kingdom.

Making an application with the Martins Law Firm guarantees your Visa approval and in a lesser time as compared with applications made directly to the U.K Embassies. Once they get all your necessary papers processed, they will fax copies of the same to the U.K Embassy in applicants Country of location and such an applicant will be prompted on when to visit the embassy with his/ her passport for the Visa stamp. This is the easiest process for International employees to meet up with Migration Formalities and join us as soon as possible.

I want to be as anonymous as possible while posting this, but I’ve known I want to become female for a while know, I can’t remember how long my low memory processing affects my memories greatly. I do not cross dress at all I never have, I have wanted to for years though, my mother told me a story that when I was a toddler and I visited my Uncle’s I preferred to play with the dolls and prams than the other toys, he got me a shopping cart because he thought that made me less feminine. I am bisexual and proud of it, I feel my body is very masculine and my voice quite deep, I’m shorter than average but my friends say I can be very camp sometimes, but for some reason I get the feeling my attraction towards men would diminish if I became a woman. Recently my epilepsy has been acting up again I do not trust my doctor enough to talk about this with him. A while ago I created an account on IMVU and made a profile of the woman I wanted to be (The woman I created does not exist in real life it was completely my own invention), I was only trying to trial run the social life of an 18 year old girl, compared to my social life as an 18 year old boy, it turns out I am much more confident at making friends as a girl and my personality is the same as both boy and girl, I met an Italian girl and we ended up trading email addresses, turns out she is a transsexual, she changed her whole body into that of a woman’s but kept her penis, she seemed to have emotional problems about her body but I helped her through it and I feel I truly love this Italian woman, we both talk about our future together but I still haven’t told her I am a Male, she is aware of my age and I have told her many things about my life we both happily say we love each other, I am afraid she won’t love me if she finds out my true gender. Currently when I am at college I am seen as a happy and lively person, and my parents both know I am bisexual, although I have never shown any regards to wanting a sex change to them, so I feel if I tell my mother or father they will be confused and think I am rushing things when I have wanted this for a long time. Also I don’t want people to think of my past life if I do become a woman, I would want to be treated exactly like a female with no mention of my current life (that includes my family I want every single one of them to treat me like a niece, female cousin, a daughter, and a sister). The thought of me in the future one day waking up as a girl excites me, not sexually, it makes me feel happy, for a long time I have felt uncomfortable in my body, I put it down to my severe case of epilepsy, but maybe I just didn’t realise that I’m in the wrong body. Please I’m stressing out over this, I don’t know what to do even if it seems I have a lot of it sorted out, I feel like I know nothing. Long story short, I know I want to be a woman but at the same time I don’t want to tell anyone about it, also considering I have a quite manly body I don’t know what sort of woman I would become, I dream, of a day when I have long luscious hair, no beard or chest hair, real breasts, and a voice I can be proud of. @Danni by come out I assume you mean about my desire to become female because I’ve told most people who know me that I am Bisexual. Also I’m not sure what to do about my Italian “Girlfriend” she thinks I’m completely female, should I tell her and hope she doesn’t hate me or should I keep things a secret Bearing in mind she was once a man. Also coming out about my desire to become female isn’t that easy for me, because I have never shown any hint of a desire to become female before my parents will question it and I really am afraid of questioning. Thanks for the links though they are a real help @Danni by come out I assume you mean about my desire to become female because I’ve told most people who know me that I am Bisexual. Thanks for the links though they are a real help I’d like to solidify some facts here, firstly I will become a woman someday I just haven’t figured out when, secondly I am so scared of how my family will react so fear is keeping me from telling them right now, thirdly I am in full time education and my epilepsy is creating problems that no one foresaw it is confusing doctors, finally I don’t know how my epilepsy will respond to the idea of a sex-change to be honest I actually feel calmer now that I have posted this question, maybe the feeling of finally telling someone whether they know who I am is making me like this, but how do I know that any change in my body won’t cause epileptic seizures. lastly sorry about the length of this question

The terrorist assault on Mumbai’s five-star hotels was well planned, but did not require a great deal of logistic intelligence: all the targets were soft. The aim was to create mayhem by shining the spotlight on India and its problems and in that the terrorists were successful. The identity of the black-hooded group remains a mystery.

The Deccan Mujahedeen, which claimed the outrage in an e-mail press release, is certainly a new name probably chosen for this single act. But speculation is rife. A senior Indian naval officer has claimed that the attackers (who arrived in a ship, the M V Alpha) were linked to Somali pirates, implying that this was a revenge attack for the Indian Navy’s successful if bloody action against pirates in the Arabian Gulf that led to heavy casualties some weeks ago.

The Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has insisted that the terrorists were based outside the country. The Indian media has echoed this line of argument with Pakistan (via the Lashkar-e-Taiba) and al-Qaeda listed as the usual suspects.

But this is a meditated edifice of official India’s political imagination. Its function is to deny that the terrorists could be a homegrown variety, a product of the radicalization of young Indian Muslims who have finally given up on the indigenous political system. To accept this view would imply that the country’s political physicians need to heal themselves.

Al Qaeda, as the CIA recently made clear, is a group on the decline. It has never come close to repeating anything vaguely resembling the hits of 9/11.

Thanks!!!

I’m always intrigued by this song, both the beat and the video clip. Do you think the creators had something in mind they wanted to say or some sort of a “philosophy” behind the song or it’s just good house music?

I’m pretty sure I understand why, but for argument’s sake (and since I need to cite sources for my conclusions), I could use some links to articles of historians speaking on the subject, or something similar.

She came over the other day after years of not seeing her, and she was wearing a human hair wig, and admitted that all the medications she has been on has not helped her, some made her condition worse…I have read up on this, and yet I have no clue on how or what to say to her…any ideas? Much appreciated!

Hi, I have psychology coursework to do over summer, and I’m a little bit stuck, so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated! :)

I did an experiment at school to test conformity within certain age groups by putting Millions (little sweets – they come in pink, blue, purple and brown? Anyway, they’re just little chewy balls) in a jar, and sending the jar around a class of year sevens along with a sheet of paper, and the kids were told to write their initials, age, and estimate for how many sweets were in the jar.

I had already faked about ten people’s initials and put ages like 17 and 18, hoping that the 11 and 12 year olds would look up to the older kids and conform to their answers (I had put all of the college-age answers as around 2000).

The experiment worked, and most kids did conform, but here’s the thing: I need to include an example of where a professional psychologist has done the same kind of experiment as me. I know my experiment was on conformity, and if nobody knows of a psychologist doing a “Pellets in a Jar” experiment or similar, then I can always use Asch’s study, but it tests conformity in a different way, so I’d prefer not to use him.

Sorry it’s a kind of long question, but thanks to anybody who even bothers to read it. ^_^

I told a stranger on Omegle that I was slightly annoyed by the fact that not many people use proper proper grammar and punctuation anymore. Then I explained that I meant the easy rules that we should have been taught at around 7-10 years of age: where to put full stops, how to use capital letters and commas and all the not-so-complex stuff.

Their argument was fair: Omegle has a range of people from different countries.

But in order to be able to communicate with others on the website, you’d have to be at least semi fluent in English since that is the main language spoken. Along with learning English, wouldn’t it make sense to learn basic grammar?

So do you think I was being arrogant?

I wasn’t raised in an English speaking environment, so don’t just assume that. No, I was raised in Finland but my family novel to Australia when I was 9. I knew two words of English when I got stuck in a school. Within a year, I was semi-fluent and getting B’s on written essays and making few grammatical mistakes. By the end of the second year, I was fluent and making very few mistakes. Now, after living in Australia for 5 years, I could pass as a native English speaker. I also scored top 2% in writing, and top 10% or so in spelling and grammar and punctuation in a nation wide test.

I never found it very hard to learn English. For about 2 years, I was also semi-fluent in French, I made very few errors in writing it in regards to grammar. Alas, due to not using French for 2-3 years now, I can barely speak it anymore. I can also read, write and spell fluently and correctly in my mother tongue.

Also, if you didn’t know, Omegle(.com) is an anonymous chatting website.

I know that not everyone will know how to use grammar properly, but those who I’ve spoken to on Omegle and they have said they’re from America, Australia or the UK still usually have atrocious grammar. Even the 20-30 year olds. I know that I sounded very up myself whilst writing those three paragraphs but I needed to show people that non-native English speakers can still be good at grammar, punctuation, spelling, speaking and writing.

Is there really a difference between Facebook Fan pages and ordinary Facebook profiles? I constantly hear about Facebook “fan pages”, but there are no references to the “Fan Page” on Facebook’s site. However, there is the option to ad a page. Is this considered the “Fan Page” everyone’s talking about? But there are several options. Are they all “Fan Pages” ?
